Do you ever feel like you are not like other normal kids?

Does this Sound Like You?

It’s your first day of school, and just like other kids, you’re incredibly excited to meet your teacher, learn new things, and make new friends! You’re all set and beaming with your wide warm smile, ready to be a social butterfly, but your expectations begin to crumble as you feel like you can’t seem to keep up with everyone in your class, you can’t read, understand, and speak up as clearly and coherently as other kids. You can’t seem to follow instructions that well and end up wishing the day would be over so you can run back home where it’s safe and you can be you, without anyone passing judgment.

You struggle at learning and even socializing in school or in other social gatherings. You’re treated differently and looked down upon by your teacher or even your classmates. They would poke fun at you even with your slightest mistake. And every single day that you have to go to school is pure agony.

All the while, you end up a social outcast, feeling sorry for yourself, experiencing low self-esteem and not coping with school requirements because of your learning disability.

And you ask, “Why can’t I be just like other kids?”

Every single day was tormenting but you have to go through it because you have to go to school so you can learn, build, and grow. It wasn’t easy to be treated like you always needed extra help or couldn’t figure things out on your own. It wasn’t a walk in the park to have learning disabilities and be in school to LEARN. It was so much harder compared to how others breeze through it.

However, it’s the pain, difficulties, and struggles that made you more resilient and stronger to cope with your learning difficulties. All these years, you actually found a way to transform all that pain, ridicule, and rejection into your SUPERPOWER.

Today, as a successful business owner, you look back to all those years when you felt you were never enough or can’t do anything right, or you were struggling to fit in, and just smile. You know you had to go through all that pain and failures because winning is sweeter when you are willing to put in the work and decide how your life will turn out, and that no matter what other people say, your voice is the only thing that matters.

You wished you had it easy but let me tell you one thing – you were not cut for average, you are meant for greater things!

The Story Behind How the Book was Written

I wrote Bubble Bear’s Special Problem back in 1989 when I was studying to be a teacher. I wanted to write a book to help children and adults understand the best way to handle children with learning disabilities in the classroom. Bubble Bear’s Special Problem was written from the viewpoint of a learning disabled child that struggles with dyslexia. You can experience Bubble Bear’s struggles and celebrate his victories. During the past 20 years that I taught in preschools, I disliked the way the children were treated by both their classmates and teachers. I wanted to help all the children (with or without disability) learn to overcome their challenges and focus on using their strengths to help the world become a better place.

In my lifetime, I observed that the world is quick to point fingers at you and say what you are doing wrong.  In the process of making accusations they forget to tell you what you did that is right, or forget to praise your strengths.  In the last 30 years, we have become a society that is feeding into the frenzy of mob mentality and letting the bullies win.  We need to take a stand against the bullies and help people who point fingers at us to realize that what we do bring value to the world in very unique ways. We just learn & process information  differently.  Children with learning disabilities are smart and creative. Because we have had to find ways to overcome our unique challenges. That is our greatest strength. As a result of overcoming our challenges, we have become the dreamers and doers of the world because we don’t let our challenges stop us from achieving our dreams.

About the Book

Bubble Bear’s Special Problem is written from the perspective of a dyslexic child, and you get to experience everything through their lens. The teaching point is to help children make better choices and provide alternatives instead of acting out. This book aims to be a teaching point on sharing core values on how we should treat others. This book is written so that all children and adults can grasp the concepts written in this story.

The motto of this book series is meant to be a teaching point on acceptance as a choice and that we all can learn from one another’s unique skills and experiences and add value to the world. We destigmatize learning disabilities in order to provide a better understanding of their learning process. As the author of the Bubble Bear Books series, Marie Mason chose a book theme focused on learning disabilities because she struggled with overcoming the daily challenges of her learning disability, known as Auditory Perception. Through her own experiences, she was inspired to show teachers that there are different ways in which we learn, process, and retain information. This book is a contribution towards solving a problem, helping to destigmatize dyslexia.
